Nearby spots

  • Senso-ji Temple

    Tokyo's oldest temple, founded in 645. The grounds stay open through the night, and the lit-up main hall is best seen after the day crowds thin out.

  • Kaminarimon & Nakamise-dori

    About 250 m of approach from the Kaminarimon lantern to Senso-ji, lined with souvenir stalls and snack shops good for grazing.

  • Edo Taito Traditional Crafts Center

    A small museum showcasing about 250 traditional crafts from Taito ward artisans: Edo sudare blinds, kiri tansu, Edo sashimono and more. Free entry, closed 2nd and 4th Tuesdays. Demonstrations on weekends.

  • Sumida Park & River Terrace

    Riverside promenade behind the property. The Skytree view is sharpest at dawn and dusk, and yakatabune boats come and go just below.

  • Araiyu Sento

    Traditional sento about 6 minutes' walk away. Founded in 1950, with miyazukuri shrine-style architecture and a bathing-room mural based on Hokusai's Thirty-Six Views of Mount Fuji.

  • The Sumida Hokusai Museum

    Kengo Kuma–designed museum standing in Honjo, Hokusai's birthplace. The permanent gallery has touchscreens for high-resolution viewing of his major works, and the special exhibitions rotate seasonally.

  • Tokyo Skytree

    634 m tall, one of the world's tallest free-standing towers. Sunset slots tend to fill up first; book a window in advance.

  • Ueno Park & Zoo

    A large park bringing together the National Museum, the Museum of Western Art, and the zoo. Reachable on foot or one stop on the Tsukuba Express.

  • Kappabashi Kitchen Town

    About 170 shops for cookware, tableware, and the famous plastic food samples. Note that more than half of them close on Sundays.
